To create a personal brand, I looked for inspiration in my own life and followed my intuition.
1.INSPIRATION
I admire nature & its imperfectly, perfect curves
White Sands National park put me in a state of awe. I wanted to mimic the endless beige canvas in my own work
The earthy tones in my spice rack informed my color palette
I was drawn to the mustard yellow of turmeric, rusty red paprika, and pops of green parsley.
2. BRAND BOARD
I made a reference guide for colors, shapes, and fonts
After the 31-day design challenge, I realized this is a crucial step for making a cohesive body of work. For me, having a set of guidelines allows creativity to flow.
I used Canva to transform and translate my inspiration into a logo and a design framework.
I loved the idea of a handwritten font for my logo to give an approachable, natural vibe. To offset this though, I went with a more technical, typewriter-looking font. This mimics my own dichotomy between the creative and technical worlds.
3. Design
It was so fun to see my vision come to life
Streamlining my “look” made everything easier. I continually referenced my brand board as I designed this website, my resume, and my portfolio. This design theme even spilled into my YouTube channel art and a book that I recently published.
4. continue to grow
Maintaining a Pinterest board helps me understand what design techniques I like
After perusing other talented artists and collecting images that speak to me, I can see themes that reoccur and try to implement them in my own work, in my own way.
