Thornton Lake

Our first hike in the North Cascades National Park! We got to add a sticker to our wall. This hike was to Thornton Lake, and we were camping right up the road, so we walked to the trailhead after breakfast.

It was 5.2 miles out to the lake, so 10.4 total. We ran into a solo-hiker around our age that thought it was 5.2 miles total, so he was a little unprepared. We pumped him some water so he gave Ben a swig of whiskey in return. We all had a laugh about the fact he had plenty whiskey but not enough water.

There was a good amount of uphill to get to this lookout over the lake, and the trail continued down the steep edge to get to the water. By the time we scurried down there, I was pooped!

It was overall a great hike! It felt good to get back on the trail. Toward the end, Ben and I were talking about what we would do as parents in certain situations. It made for some very animated discussion!!
