Secluded in Montana
We last left you on Thursday, driving through North Dakota. On Friday we woke up at a trusty Walmart parking lot in Minot, North Dakota. Ben wanted to have a big driving day, and I joked about driving us all the way to Glacier. Sure enough I actually did! We knocked out over 600 miles.
Since I hyped it up to be a fun driving day, I had a great time listening to my podcasts, audio books, and music.
“The Lakota Way” by Joseph M Marshall, about Native American philosophy - loving this!
“The Power of Vulnerability” by Brené Brown
Several episodes of Fresh Air with my girl Terry Gross
Ben was able to work a good amount. We stopped for him to have a conference call in a super small town somewhere in Montana. Always makes me laugh to hear him talking science in such a bizarre setting.
We rolled in before dark and drove into a National Forest just south of Glacier. We stayed secluded up there for the weekend - only saw one other couple the whole time when we went for a walk up the road.
There was a meadow right behind us that the sun beamed onto most of the day. We laid out there on blankets, sipping coffee, playing our instruments, and reading. You read that right - I have been READING! For those who know me, you know this is a big deal. One of my key character traits since I was a little girl was despising reading. Since being unemployed though, I’ve turned over a new leaf. I’ve read 2 physical books so far:
Untamed by Brené Brown
The Pearl by John Steinbeck
Let’s see if I can keep it up!
Other than relaxing, cooking, and crunching fluids data (Ben only), one last notable activity was filming the official van tour for my YouTube channel! It took several hours but I’m glad to finally have done it. I’ve been editing the footage since. I want to keep it snappy and interesting, but also include all the amazing details that took so long to do. Right now it’s looking like it will be around 30 minutes, which I think is pretty reasonable.
