Canoe Trip on Ross Lake
This canoe trip started just like any other of our trips - in a parking lot. Ben worked all day and I prepped food like a mad woman. I think I did the dishes 3 times.
Ben wanted to soak up all the wifi time he could, so we stayed until almost midnight. He’s getting pretty stressed about finishing everything on time, so he decided sleep could wait. We didn’t make it to the Cascades until after 2am and woke up at 7am to get to the canoe rental place bright and early.
Ross Lake is over 20 miles long and even stretches into Canada. It’s a pretty famous landmark of the Cascades. Ross Lake Resort is at the southern tip, and that’s where we rented the canoe for $50 a day. It was SUCH a beautiful morning - we were both pumped about the days to come.
I vlogged, so I’ll save all the details for that, but man oh man was it a great trip. The only downfall was the misquotes in the evenings, but other than that we had perfect conditions.
The coolest thing for me was just how small you felt in the center of this massive lake, with mountains towering over you from all angles. There’s just nothing like it. Also spending that time without phone service - no one can contact you and you can’t contact anyone. It takes a couple days settle into, but by day 3 you really feel different. I think we all don’t realize the effect our devices and the constant reachability has.
We had some great star gazing in the hammock every night, despite the skeeters. The first night we saw Jupiter (we think, because in the binoculars you could see several moons around it).
Unfortunately morning of day 4 was time to head out - dreaded Thursdays! We both would’ve been happy to spend at least 2 more days out there. Until next time!!
